E'ris coasted on at a leisurely pace, Kaymat's slo-trans thrusters working away
despite the fact that that former Gear's weight was steadily increasing due to
the crust of Drium which was now creeping over its entire body, forming spines
and joints in certain places. During the trip over the ocean which, by using
Kaymat's sensors, he had learned was the gate between a nation called Doma and
one called Vector. E'ris kept his eyes open for anything suspicious or possibly hostile.

He cruised for most of the afternoon, heading south toward the nation called
Vector. The trip was monotonous and uneventful, until he chanced upon
something he did not expect. He was in the middle of the ocean, yet he had
picked up on a large grouping of Steel which, somewhere in its depths, housed
drium. As much as he had found in the base.

"It makes no sense..! This ocean is on register as being more than 28 miles deep
at this point. How is there a base here?"

Tyrmagest responded by halting the gear in midair and bringing it to the surface
of the water. A panel on the gear's left forearm opened and fired a large, silver
oval into the water. A full minute later, a new register appeared on the cockpit
wall showing a sonar map of the sea floor.

"Neat trick.. What is it, though? ..I make out the shape of rock.. nothing here.
Wait! That.. it's an antenna, isn't it?"

The display emitted a confirmatory blip and disappeared. "Down we go." E'ris said.
At this, he shut off Kaymat's boosters and engaged a joint-compression program
via Tyrmagest, water-tightening its chassis. Immediately it sank, very quickly.
E'ris heard a dull buzz followed by a click as air vents in the cockpit opened
and began emitting pure oxygen, rended forth from the seawater by electrical
separation of H20.

As Kaymat contacted the sea floor - a silt-covered concrete cieling - its
legs hatched open at the ankle level and water-coping drives crawled out,
permitting its legs to move freely in the water. E'ris walked along the
cieling, blowing the silt away with a jet of water. He gave up on locating
a hatchway when he remembered that any underwater entrance to the base would
have to be from below. Perhaps searching this base would have to wait until
his equipment was enhanced a little more.

Kaymat's ballast tanks blew and it rose to the surface again, resuming thrust
power. E'ris went to consult his map again, but found that for some reason
it would not open. He decided to head off in the direction of the sunset,
and once more he was travelling. Lengthy spines had begun to jut from Kaymat's
knees, and things were just getting started.

(Sorry, I'm tired. More later.)
