All was chaos on the battlefield. Thanks to the Magiteks' initial
assault, the invaders were thrown into confusion. Now it was the infantry's
turn to finish the job.

Tyler shot a glance at Curt, who was frantically ducking arrows, spears, and
slashing wildly, sometimes mistakenly at his allies. Once again, the fighter
felt simultaneously sorry at the lessons the kid was having to learn and pissed at the powers that be for landing him there in the first place. Luckily, Curt had had enough sense to take his advice and stick close to the
other soldiers and let them do the heavy fighting.

Tyler suddenly heard a deafening roar and whirled around to see Magnus being
wrestled to the ground by no less than three Henriksons. But no sooner had
they got him down than he stood up again and shook them off like a dog
shaking off water, hurling the two holding his arms away and then grabbing
the one on his back and flipping him over onto one of his fellows running up
to dispatch the hulking warrior.

Magnus let out another roar and charged back into the fray. Numerous cuts and scars covered his body, but the warrior was unconcerned, completely berserk. *That's what they call them, right? Berserkers,* thought Tyler suddenly. He
and others had gawked when the huge fighter had showed up on the
battlefield carrying a huge battle axe and wearing nothing more than a bear
skin. But looking at the way Magnus was tearing apart the enemy, now it didn't seem like that bad a decision.

A battle cry interrupted his musing. Suddenly a Henrikson appeared in front
of him. Quickly he threw up his sword in a hasty parry, but the obviously
well-trained soldier slashed and flung the sword out of Tyler's hand. Tyler
immediately dropped and lunged, tackling his opponent and sending them
both tumbling to the ground. They grappled, but the Henrikson proved to
be a smart hand-to-hand fighter. He rolled and got on top of Tyler then
began choking him. Drawing his dagger, he raised it and prepared to deliver
the death blow - when suddenly a sword point erupted from his chest.

Tyler scrambled out from under the dying soldier to see none other than
Curt, bloody sword in hand, haunted look on his face. Tyler was about to
thank him when suddenly his foot lashed
out and kicked Curt in the back
of his knee. His companion let out a
startled yell - and barely missed getting decapitated by another
Henrikson. A moogle leapt over the two
fallen warriors and drove the enemy back.

Tyler quickly got to his feet then pulled Curt up. Both retrieved their
swords and quickly surveyed the carnage. Men and moogles were cutting
each other down everywhere they looked. From the knee down, their legs were soaked in blood. Somewhere Magnus let out another roar.

Echoing Magnus with a loud war whoop, Tyler raised his blade and dashed back
into the fray.

It was here that Curt suddenly realized there was no way he was going to escape
with his sanity intact. With his own crazed holler, he too raised his blade
and ran after Tyler.
