Vector was dead silent. Something wasn't right, Kat thought. Now, the
uneasy feeling which she had been trying to ignore was undeniable. She
didn't want to see the signs, but all the events in the last day and a half
were like bad omens. The Henriksens could feel it to. Kat had a gut that
she should immediately order a retreat, before the invasion had even begun.
But before she could say the word, her entire army was ambushed by a larger
army of humans, moogles, and mechas. The Henriksens brandished their weapons
and fought as best they could, but their enemies had the advantage, and no
amount of valient fighting could realistically overcome that.
In the midst of simply trying to survive, the Henriksen forces were
forced by the enemy to split up into two groups, one of which included
General Kat, and the other included General Henriksen. General Henriksen's
men were being taken out by the combined forces of the moogle foot soldiers
and the Vector Militia. Kat's Henriksens were being mowed down, one by one,
by the mechas. The manned war machines were led by a special mecha being
piloted by what appeared to be a moogle/human hybrid.
Kat was struck by the disturbing expression on the pilot's face, which
seemed to simultaneously express horror, blood-lust, self-loathing, and
compassion. Merely by making eye contact, she was able to feel the chaos
burning within his soul. She was distracted from this transfixed state when
a Lance Henriksen tackled her, to get her out of the way of a blast from the
mecha's energy cannon. She quickly thanked the soldier for saving her life,
and returned to leading her army.
