Subj: [ffml] [MW] The Seeker Date: 99-11-28 18:34:51 EST From: magus@cyberverse.com (Daniel Polcari) Reply-to: ffml@onelist.com To: ffml@onelist.com It had been several hundred years since Kaymata was destroyed, along with the crystal banks which fed power to E'ris and all other seekers in the nation of Eyar. Most of the citizens within Kaymata were massacred by the chrome-colored mechanical beasts whose streamlined hulls made them look similar to swarming insects. It was long ago, indeed.. In the 3000 (Or was it 4000? Or 5000?) years that E'ris had spent wandering in these lands, he had learned the names of many cities.. Baron, Eblan, Vector.. But he had ventured into none. Occasionally picking up on an unfortunate member of that race called "Humanity," he would deftly and mercifully end its life with the remnants of his armor, Tyrmagest--its sword. As far as an agenda, he had little... Find Drium, use the Drium to rebuild Tyrmagest, and make a home for himself by conquering one of the simple Empires which dotted this enormous world. Time, however, has had a nullifying effect on his goals.. After a few thousand years's search turned up only enough drium to bring the Armor out of stasis, his schedule quickly degraded into a mild mixture of wandering, thinking, and taking four or five seconds to rejoice whenever he found one of the extremely small pockets of Drium which had previously eluded him. He had managed to avoid the tides of the war between this world's people several times, residing as far from civilization as possible. Again, however, time's actions have changed the tide. This former Knight of a formerly great nation which resided on a formerly beautiful world which was coated from end to end with lush grass and clean, calm oceans had become tired. Bored. He was going to do something in this world, and it would be something which brought him to attention. E'ris was aware that most recently he had passed close to a Castle whose base emitted a high whining sound before burrowing into the ground and vanishing, but there was no way he could remember how long ago that was. Seeing this marvel of technology, he realized that the people here may be stronger and more advanced than he had always thought. Then he remembered the 2-foot high, goofy-looking creatures he'd seen swarming in a battle and wondered once more what he was thinking. War! That was it. These people fought constantly! If he could commandeer some sort of technology, and perhaps a few allies with interests akin to his own... That might be enough to send some ripples through this world's loose soil. It was clear to E'ris that there had not existed an extremely powerful weapon here in any recent time--if such a weapon was used within the 3 (4? 5?) thousand years he'd been here, Tyrmagest would have told him... But where then did the corroded, cone-shaped objects imbedded in the rocks in some places come from? ..Judging from the degree of wear they bore, they may even have been older than Eyar itself. Further back than 22000 years!? It was impossible.. or so it seemed. Maybe these people had lived another life in another time...? It was an intriguing possibility. He thought that he'd do himself well to get a shovel... -=-=+=-=- +----------------------+ | Daniel Steven Polcari| | magus@cyberverse.com | | Nemesis^ on IRC | +----------------------+ --------------------
