Kuma surveyed his soldiers.

He had a troop of 500 Moogles armed with the finest of lances, 200 Moogle
Boars, 200 Magitek suits and 100 Sky Armours.

He sighed. One Battalion. That's all he had to work with.

He had done his best to keep his troops unaware of what was going on in
other areas of the front. If they were aware of Heil Keep's falling, it
would probably cost in morale and definately cost in performance.

The Moogle troops stood at the pass. Scouting had informed intellegence that
there was a considerable sized human force heading this way, more likely
than not to test the Moogle's defenses. The Moogles needed more time to get
the Doma trap set up, so when Major Kuma's name came up as the man who
managed to hold off a previous assault by a Doman force of 2000 that
apparantly missed the boat, while the Moogles were pillaging wildly, and he
only with 200 men, they figured he should be able to handle an advancing
force pushing 3000 with 1000 rather easily.

Of course, the last time was only a fluke, and apparantly the Moogles needed
all the troops they can get to keep "Operation Big Black Cock" working. So,
they gave Kuma the minimal troops.

Making due with what he had, Kuma had set up a hopefully formidable defense.
Using the wood in the region, he had managed to construct a few primitive
but effective bolt throwers. He had insisted that Doma supply him with
enough crossbows for his troops. In the hills he had dugouts built, so the
Moogles could litterally pound the shit out of the humans before the humans
got close to them or at least hold them to a standoff.

Once he did this, he set the crossbows up on stands, allowing for his troops
to fire without the problem of recoil. He also had a crank system set so
the bows could be reloaded quickly.

Now, all he had to do is wait.

The human force didn't give him much time to relax. Soon the horn signalling
the attack was heard.

"FIRE!" he yelled as the first troops emerged into view. Several dropped to
the floor. The humans halted.

"FIRE!" he yelled, the bolts causing the humans to pull back.

He chuckled. He looked to the bolt throwers. He nodded.

Walking back, he grabbed a shortbow from his chocobo. His troops knew to
keep the humans at bay. He looked to his sergant.

"On my signal, unleash hell."

He then rode his chocobo off down the dugouts. They finally rose into a
treeline, where Kuma had another set of troops waiting.

"Alright, let us work our way around.

The Moogles and the humans sat at a stalemate for a few hours. They
attempted to fire arrows into the trench, but the Moogles avoided the
missile assault by raising their shields.

Then, it came. From the forest a sudden clutter was heard. A flaming arrow
emerged from the treeline, and the Moogles begun Firing their volleys once
more. The bolt throwers thrust off into the humans leading troops, now
occupied with this new force.

Quickly, the Moogles in the trench grasped thier spears and charged.

And the war was on. The humans were surrounded.

Kuma himself was in the lead, oddly. He thrust his lance down through the
skull of a footman, and quickly drew a sabre. Two footmen came up to
challenge him, and a quick slice removed them of their heads.

Before long, the humans pulled out and retreated. The Moogles stood, mocking
them. A few showed off their testicles and shook them.

Kuma looked at his force. He'd lost 200 men.

He sighed. He at least bought his force some time.
