Tyler shifted anxiously. He loved being in action, so waiting to see that
action was quite difficult. His bandaged arm throbbed a little, a reminder
of the battle with the Domans a few days earlier. Stubbornly he jerked his
sleeve over the bandage and willed the pain away. Going into battle with
an obvious injury was asking for the enemy to exploit it.

*Good thing it won't be a battle,* he thought, *just a simple
hit-and-run.*

He glanced over at Curt, who was blatantly nursing the wound he had gotten
in the big battle. The experienced soldier shot him a warning glance; his
target shot an pained and frustrated one back.

Tyler grimaced but couldn't blame him. A few days clearly wasn't enough to
get over the mental trauma of his first battle scars. Particularly not
when the injured was someone who never figured he'd be fighting anyone in
his life.

Suddenly, a bird call split the air, and both men stiffened and looked
back at the trail cutting through the forest. Looking down the road, they
saw a supply caravan coming their way. Undoubtedly, it was the Doman
forces on their way to the fall-back point at Southvale.

Again, the men looked at each other. This time Tyler had a grim,
determined expression; Curt's hadn't changed much, except the pain and
frustration was now mixed with fear and helpless resignation. With another
warning glance, Tyler tore his gaze away. Now was not the time to worry
about his friend's inner turmoil.

Suddenly there were several loud twangs and, moments later, a pair of
dying shrieks. Two mounted escorts fell out of their saddles, arrows
lodged in their chests. However, the other Domans were ready for trouble.
By the next volley of twangs, their shields were up and ready. That round
of arrows clattered away or punched through wood and metal, not flesh.

Now war cries filled the air, and a division of Vector militia charged out
of their cover, attacking on one side. Moments later, the dreaded cry of
"KUPO!!" joined the humans' hollering, followed by a swarm of moogles
attacking the other side of the caravan.

Of course, Curt stayed near Tyler and Magnus, knowing full well that to
get separated would be suicide. Of course, they also paid attention to
where he was and moved accordingly, knowing that as well. Unfortunately,
Tyler was having problems of his own. His buckler was strapped to his
injured left arm, so his right handed opponents were jarring it with every
strike. He slashed his sword at them wildly, trying to keep them back
until the commander gave the signal to fall back.

The Domans (and the group of Henriksons riding with them) weren't about to
give in easily, and they fought with reckless abandon. Although the troops
on both sides had not fully recovered from the battle, no one on either
side was willing to give- with the possible exception of Curt.

And perhaps Tyler, whose arm was now throbbing almost unbearably. By now,
he was shouting every epithet he could think of, slashing and hacking
mindlessly at his opponents who were rapidly falling back.

Suddenly, a shout interrupted his rampage. The signal to fall back.
Snapping out of his battle rage, he mentally heaved a sigh of relief and
turned to go- only to find his way blocked by several Henriksons. Quickly
he looked around. Everywhere, he saw the enemy. He swore as the
realization hit him. In his pain-hazed fury, he had pushed too far, gotten
cut off from his allies. And now the enemies recognized their surrounded
attacker.

From behind him, a voice called out, "Halt! Drop your weapon and
surrender." He whirled and faced a pair of Henriksons, flanked by
spear-wielding Domans. For a moment, he considered their order. For a
moment.

Once that moment was up, he snarled, "Fuck that- I ain't about to die on
my knees. You want me, then here I am." With that he launched himself at
the nearest Henrikson- and was promptly clubbed unconscious by the one
sneaking up behind him.

Sky? Space? You now have a prisoner.

Like Sky, I have serious schoolwork, so I won't be able to write as much
as I should. If someone could temporarily take over my characters...?
