Its engines whirred relaxingly as they cooled off and wound down for the first time in a week. Although the failure of its navigational systems meant that E'ris no longer knew where he was, perhaps it was a blessing. He had passed over water in a straight line for a full seven days, moving at a good clip, so he was likely to be a region that was new and unexplored to him. Kaymat's weight had reached its goal as a new, full sheathe of drium scales and plates had grown over it, completely masking its old appearance. Its Engines had been expanded as well to cope with the new load that was placed on them, and all was working well. E'ris was pleased with his remodeling job and decided to allow the former Gear to rest. He popped open the cockpit hatch and leapt mildly from his seat, coming to rest several feet from the sandline of the beach. Looking around, he saw a thin forest of relatively old pines sitting at the base of a mountain range. "I suppose we camp here, Tyrmagest." The response was a dull, annoyed glow from the gem in his chest. He began gathering wood, a task which was not too difficult given that he could sear the wood of any nearby tree into dry kindling with a burst of light from either hand. Soon, he had a fire roaring at his feet and a well-prepared rabbit skewered on a stick like a marshmallow. = = = = = = = = = The Dark Lord sat quietly on his throne, regarding an image cast upon the air in front of him. A crystalline-looking black Mech was flying toward the beach north of his Castle. Its pilot was new to him.. From his appearance, he could not be more than 18 years old, by human standards.. yet The Dark Lord sensed in him a deep history and, if he wasn't sure it was impossible, another being altogether. "Who are you...? Hm. Perhaps we'll have to have a meeting of sorts, young one." The mountains closed steeply around the beach to the east and west of the boy's camp. Without his gear, The Dark Lord thought, he would be forced to make his way through the slightly less-treacherous mountains to his south. He would certainly arrive in the Forsaken Land in search of aid or counsel. The Dark Lord's hand reached into the image, gripping the torso of the illusionary gear and binding it with threads of his will. He need only wait for his prey to leave the web, only to run into its spinner. = = = = = = = = = E'ris awakened the next morning refreshed and happy to have eaten, although it was unneccessary. After working the mild atrophies out of his joints, he prepared for another journey by air. To his surprise, upon attempting to open Kaymat's cockpit, he heard only a weak attempt at a grinding sound followed by silence and the mocking visage of an unopened cockpit. He immediately consulted Tyrmagest to find what had happened. He received no response other than the verbal equivalent of a question mark. "Wonderful. The long trip over ocean must have taken its toll on the Human-made components.." He said disdainfully. "However.. if they made it, I'm sure they have something that can fix it." Quite expectably, E'ris scanned the area and saw that his best bet would be to avoid the sheer cliffs to the east and west by heading through the pass-like clearing in the southern part of the range. He set three shards of crystal in the sand near Kaymat in a triangle formation around it and suspended a fourth at the Gear's apex, forming a visual barrier of energy which would prevent all but the incredibly astute from stumbling upon it. He began to walk. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Well, I haven't written for a while and I didn't choose the best time to start again, but I hope it's not as horrible as it *seems*. When I take some extra time to get in touch with Vince and Space, I may be able to pick up where I left off with the storyline. For now, however, it seems that the Dark Lord has taken an Interest in the actions of the Seeker... +----------------------+ | Daniel Steven Polcari| | magus@cyberverse.com | | Nemesis^ on IRC | +----------------------+ +----------------------+ | Daniel Steven Polcari| | magus@cyberverse.com | | Nemesis^ on IRC | +----------------------+ --------------------
