(well, my other two posts were written last night, then this morning I see
Eric's posts, and I went "FUCK!" So I wrote this lil thing, don't have much
ideas for it, but it takes place after eric's post, and before the other two
I posted at once.)

The division had suffered a heavy defeat to the south. A defeat in loss of
numbers, but victory in being able to hold back the moogle advance.
Tim’s brigade had been given a heavy beating itself, losing fifteen
percent of it’s forces. Another brigade, suffering even worse losses, was
cannibalized and it’s men dispersed to fill the depleted ranks of the rest
of the battalion. This luckily brought the number of troops in Tim’s brigade
back up to it’s standard eighty troops.
The men were given a respite before new orders would tell them where to
go. Tim had a feeling it would be the Veldt, to join the Veldt Corp. The
moogles might make a move against that area sooner or later. At least in the
heavy forests, the magitek armors would not be used. Including the huge,
hulking ogre-mech.
Tim sat in a tavern near the barracks in Doma. It was a large, noisy
establishment, but close enough and decent enough for the officers to come
to and enjoy an ale or wine. Tim held his mug in one hand, looking into it’s
dark depths as he sat at a small table to the side.
Hisel came in and purchased an ale as well. He walked over and surprised
Tim, who began to stand up to salute, but Hisel waved him off. “No, sit.”
“What news, sir?” asked Tim. He looked dejected and worn from the battle,
which was less then a week past.
“Orders, for two,” said Hisel, a slight grin on his face. Tim raised an
eyebrow. “The brigade is being assigned to the Veldt Corp, and will move out
tomorrow.”
Tim nodded. “I think that will be an easy assignment.”
Hisel nodded in response, sipping his ale. “And you have been given a
special mission.”
  “I have?”
“Yep,” said Hisel, taking another swig. “Straight from the top. You and a
squad are to accompany Princess Ladice to Figaro.”
Tim choked on his ale. “What the hell? Why was I given such an
assignment?”
“You have me,” answered Hisel. “But I think in light of your success at
two previous battles, your name is on everyone’s lips, and you are the first
to come to mind for special assignments. Besides, you are an effective small
unit commander. If in a jam, you can think your way out.”
Tim gave a rueful smile. “Well, thank you, sir. But still… there have to
be men who have served longer and who are more experienced who can do this.
I don’t see why I would be chosen with such an important task?”
“I’m not sure,” said Hisel. “But I do know this, pick your squad of men
now. The brigade is leaving tomorrow with me, and you will be given your
orders tonight. I suspect you will have to move her overland to the
westernmost port, then ship her over, and travel with her overland, south to
Figaro. That would seem most logical. Who knows what a ship would encounter
out there.”
Tim nodded. “Yes, that does seem like a good plan of action. I think I
know of some ways to sneak us south to Figaro. And we can keep the princess
in a carriage, as well. No one should bother us too much.”
Hisel grinned. “They have their man. You see? You are perfect for the
job.”
Tim shook his head and finished his ale. He then got up, gave a weak
salute, and headed out the door.

The trip was uneventful. Even at the seaport, no trouble was had, as a
Doman fast clipper was ready to take Ladice and the squad of men with her to
the Western Continent. Tim took the time to purchase some special equipment
before setting out. Ladice and Tim spoke every now and then.
After reaching the seaport, Tim took over in the handling of Princess
Ladice. She was told to dress more plain, making her look more like the wife
of a wealthy merchant or some minor noble. Also, the men removed their
uniforms and wore regular clothes, making them look more like mercenaries.
After purchasing mounts and a covered carriage, the group set out, at
first west, then up into the mountains, crossing a pass. They skirted the
land to the south of Narshe, then headed south, through the Figaro desert,
and another mountain pass. They then arrived in the lush land that
surrounded South Figaro.
The whole trip took only a few days, and very little trouble occurred in
that time.
(I can’t think of any adventures. So unless someone can give me some stuff
to work with *hint*Eric*hint* I don’t have much to write about.)
