If this offends anyone with how bad it is, I apologize in advance. I don't
know where I'm going with this, so don't expect frequent contributions. If
anyone would like to give my character direction (hint hint), that'd be
fine with me. Just don't make him do anything he wouldn't do.	>:)

The figure clothed in black robes walked down the road as the sun shone
down cheerily. This was no comfort to him, considering he was dressed in
black. He cast an irritated glance skyward and, for perhaps the first time
in his life, wished he had become a white wizard. He even toyed with the
idea of magicking up cloud cover but immediately abandoned it, smiling
sardonically. *One of the supreme masters of black magic, and a bit of
sunshine bothers me. How quickly we lose sight of more important goals
when personal comfort is at stake,* he thought.

This musing fled from him as a voice called out, "HALT!!"

He looked up. A group of moogles suddenly emerged from the woods. A
thought immediately formed in his mind; he put on a relieved look. "Ah,
good, fellow travelers. Perhaps you can help me. You se-"

The lead moogle cut him off haughtily. "Silence, fool! You are now my
prisoner, so you'd be wise to stop asking questions and start fearing for
your life!" He began laughing triumphantly, and immediately the other
moogles started laughing along with him.

The wizard blinked. "Prisoner? Wait, there must be some mistake. Have I
done something wrong? I didn't intend to, I'm just looking for someone. Or
several someones. Do you know where I might find a man named Bacca or a
woman named Lady Paladin?"

The lead moogle was taken aback. He looked suspiciously at the man in
black but got nothing but a blank, questioning stare. *This guy obviously
has no idea what's been going on here,* he thought. Gleefully, he decided
to toy with this man, hoping the others would catch on. "Oh, I see. Why
didn't you say so before? Sure, WE'll take you to Bacca."

"Oh, that's all right. I can get there myself, all I need are directions."

The leader, seeing the situation slipping from his grasp, immediately
changed gears. "Tough toasties, pal," he replied with a nasty smile.
"We're taking you there whether you like it or not."

A confused expression crossed the human's face. "What is that supposed to
mean?"

"You'll find out," snapped the leader, threatening the man with his spear.
"Now get moving."

The man frowned. "This will not do at all."

"Oh yeah? What're you gonna do about it, huh?"

The man tightened his grip on the battered staff he carried. "I strongly
believe that to underestimate your opponent's strength is to lose the
battle."

The moogle leader chuckled. "Yeah? Tough guy, huh? Well, has it crossed
your mind that maybe YOU're the one outnumbered here?"

Slowly the man raised his staff. "It had occurred to me, yes."

"Well, then let's see what you g-" Suddenly his comeback was interrupted
by a shriek behind him. He turned to see one of his men screaming in utter
terror. Before anyone could react, he lowered his spear and impaled the
moogle standing next to him. Suddenly, the other moogles went berserk and
began cutting each other to shreds!

The leader stared at the carnage in shock. What the HELL had gotten into
his men?!? Suddenly, a terrible thought dawned on him.

He turned around to see the man lower his staff, smiling coldly. "I'd love
to waste my strength fighting your men, but I can see they're occupied."
With that, he stepped past the stunned moogle and the splattered remains
of his troop.

The moogle suddenly got a plan. Seeing that the wizard had his back fully
turned, he began creeping up behind him. He raised the spear-

-then burst into flames. He wailed and dropped to the ground rolling
frantically, but it was no use. Within moments, the charred bones were all
that was left.

Xoth smiled again. He didn't turn around or even pause, just continued to
walk down the road...
