Moogle War II: Watchers
Out past the violent battlefield, well away from any danger was a tiny
party of people...human for the most part save for the tiny newborn
child in his mother's arms. Sephiroth had decided to sit out the battle
to care for the child he birthed. Beside him sat the diminuitive
refugee queen Yllesia, who was in the process of teaching him the
'finer' aspects of daily childcare...at the moment she was demonstrating
how to change diapers.
Faris chuckled lightly at the sight...she had never quite seen a man so
thoroughly infatuated with his child as a woman was...it struck her as
highly amusing, really, for in her experience she'd never seen a man
form a mother's bond.
She drew away from the two mothers and Yllesia's wisdom-talk with
Sephiroth, sure that the last thing either of them wanted was
interference. Jaana had to be somewhere, but at the moment she didn't
care. Faris trudged up the grassy knoll, following the faint sounds of
battle.
At the crest of another hill she stood, the cooling zephyrs of the south
blew softly behind her, tossing up strands of well-cared for purple
hair. Her green eyes gazed northwards into the field.
It was as if she was dreaming, there seemed to be no realism in the
battle, at least not to her. She merely watched as the moogle army fell
away to the volleys of arrows that fell like dark rabid bees to pierce
their unprotected white fur. Despite the fall of their companions,
many continued forth as if driven by a greater force. Blood spilled
freely on the grassy battlefield, deep red mingling with beautiful
shades of green and brown, the noise strangely muted...by what she could
not guess. The zephyrs drifted off, and the north winds came forth,
carrying on their wings the iron scent of blood and the nauseating smell
left by bodies that had voided themselves at the time of death. The
stench seemed to snap her from her dream-like state and suddenly the
clamor below became much louder to her ears and far too real. She
noticed as the leader of the human side seemed to go berserk...it was
all to obvious of a reminder of that one territorial pirate battle she
was in long ago...
, she thought drearily, merely
watching the battle.
She tore her eyes from the hypnotic chaos below to turn and look at her
closest friend, Yllesia, and Sephiroth and his child. Her expression
softened and a smile graced her pretty face.
As she walked down the knoll to return to her friend's presense, Jaana
soon joined her. Like the pirate, she too had been watching the battle,
but what thoughts coursed through her mind Faris could only guess at.
Not a word was exchanged between the two, and together they returned to
their camp.
