After the ship landed on Sornos, Saal-dor lead them south, to an area he refered to as "Thanatos' retreat"; the original area where he was supposed to have remained after Godzilla took control. It was a beautiful valley, surrounded by white peaked mountains, a rapid river flowing through it from a waterfall. Trees that were hundreds, if not thousands, of years old. Songbirds sung symphonies throughout the day. Not a single blade of grass grew in the entire area, yet the sun still met the ground in the occasional spot. The sole sign of any sort of civilization in the valley was a small log cabin, three gravestones, and a note they had found attached to a tree by a very strange looking knife. No one could make out the writing on it, not even Saal-dor. In fact, the only thing understandable about the letter was one variant of the signature, which Celeste had identified as "E'ris." That was about a week before Celeste went into labour. With no one having a clue on how to handle child delivery, that in itself was hell. Celeste managed to figure most of it out herself, though she was constantly sputtering about how useless her men were and how she had to go back to primitive means of bearing young, though she did note that the process wasn't that overlly painful though her means. Then again, the child was not like anything *ANYONE* could expect for a normal pregnancy. Since the childbirth, Saal-dor had insisted that he needed to leave, and he did. Just as well, Celeste figured. Most likely had he remained he would likely have slain the child, such was his reaction when he first saw him. Brian had gone through the many books in the study of the cabin, trying to figure out a scientific explanation, until Burdock, not overlly shocked but certainly a bit surprised, explained to him that they had been travelling with a diety and that pretty much threw any scientific explanations out the window. Celeste rested on the rather deteriorated porch of the cabin, reading the tombstones, her son sleeping in her arms. His growth was almost as swift as her pregnancy had been. He was already quite active and she was quickly burning off the fat of the pregnancy just to keep up with him. Now, with him rested, she looked over the tombstones. Here lies Schala, the mystic, here lies her protector, Glenn, and here lies Wilma, last of the mystics. The first two graves were considerably older than the third. THe third had obviously been dug later on. One thing was bothering her. Who was E'ris? Another one of Thanatos' lives? Or was he someone else. The note looked like it was a letter describing what someone was going to do, though why that notion occured to her was anyone's guess. Her child nuzzled her. He squawked tiredly. She sighed. This had been the weirdest month of her life, though now she knew why Thanatos was so protective of her. She had given birth to a baby lizar. -- The eternal lord of darkness... ".... cat?" "No no no no! 'Cat' was the last one, lali. This is a goldfish." "Frankly," cut in Brian "I'd say it looks like a cat too." "Look, I'm not the greatest artist in the world, lali." Celeste just laid back and sighed. Burdock and Brian had insisted on helping raise the child but they weren't the world's most effective parents. All Brian did was critize everyone and Burdock had no clue where to start, and his picture-vocab lessons weren't exactly working. The child sat back, cooing at the sky. Celeste sighed. "Perhaps, Burdock, I can help with your lessons." "How so, lass?" Celeste held out her palms, and the image of a small kitten appeared in the air. "Cat." The child nodded. "Mmmm.. alright. Show me a wolf." Celeste created the image. The child examined it. "Wolf." "Fuck, this is taking forever." grumbled Brian. "Shouldn't we be out killing Aracalen or something? And what the fuck ever happened to that dorky esper, anyway?" "Brian, get over it." grumbled Celeste. "So, lad, use those words in a sentence. The young lizar glanced at Burdock, then at Celeste, then at Brian. Finally, he looked back to Burdock. "The cat fuck the wolf." he squawked. Burdock and Celeste glanced at each other. "I suppose we'll accept that." Celeste nodded. "Alright. Keep it up Burdock. I'm going to go bathe." The dwarf nodded. Celeste strolled off to the river. * * * * * * * The water in this part of the river was somewhat calm, as in, one could sit in it without being smashed into rocks or swept away by the current. Celeste sat back on the clay riverbed sighed as the water rushed over her body. The child was growing pretty quickly. Celeste wondered if this was a standard trait for the lizar or if this was unique to this situation. Hell, it'd been a month and the little tyke was already learning to read and talk. Walking and running was already mastered, and the little guy was voraciously curious. "So what is his name?" asked a voice. Celeste whirled about. No one there. She snarled, she could have sworn she had just heard Thanatos talking to her. Then something else hit her. This entire time, she had forgotten once essential component of raising a child. A name. She chided herself for her neglegence. Alright, she figured. This is the son of Thanatos. Who else in history has been refered to as Thanatos... It hit her like a load of bricks. "Geshtar. The child's name is Geshtar." she blurted out loud. She almost felt a nod of approval from somewhere. -- The eternal lord of darkness...
