He poked Hiryuu's unconsious form a few times before giving him a swift kick that roused him from dreamland. "Geez, you would think someone with your heightened senses wouldn't be such a heavy sleeper, heheh" Frioniel chuckled. Hiryuu rolled out off the bed and rubbed his tired eyes. "What are you waking me at this god awful hour for?" Hiryuu moaned. Last nights festivities had gone into the early hours of the morning. He strode to the window and remembered the sun being in almost the same position. Frioniel crossed his arms, causing the black leather he wore to creak rather loudly. "Get dressed and grab something to eat. Today is going to be a big day." So saying, he marched out of the room. Hiryuu leaned out the window and observed the courtyard of Norland castle. Several men, women, and children were training with a variety of weaponry. He recognized many from the streets of the city. "A country after my own heart." *** Large flags bearing Coat Of Arms fluttered as Hiryuu rode past them on his chocobo. He was being led down one of Norlands main streets towards an oval shaped structure which size rivaled that of Norland Castle itself. King Semite and Princess Nera rode in front of him, Frioniel on his right. The Norlandese they passed on the streets gave the fist on heart salute. "So where are we going now?" He asked Frioniel. Frioniel spoke to him while looking ahead. "You are to meet the sage council, they will decide what is to be done from there." Hiryuu nodded. He would be able to tell these sages about Akuryuu's death, which is the reason he came to Norland in the first place. Then he could finally rondevous with his friends in Nikeah, if they were even still there. Hiryuu noticed that the people they encountered became more sparse, yesterday the streets were filled with townspeople, merchants, and entertainers. "Where is everyone?" Frioniel nodded towards the oval structure they were just entering. "No red blooded Norlandese would miss this." The group dismounted and threw their reins to the chocobo valets. Nera grabbed Hiryuu's arm as he was being led away by Frioniel. "I'll be with my father up top. Be respectful for the sages alright?" Hiryuu simply nodded. "What is this place, anyway?" "Why, it's the colosseum." Hiryuu was led down several stairways and passages before entering a wide chamber illuminated by torches. Several old men in red robes were gathered around the area, discussing to themselves. They stopped when Hiryuu entered and gave him a look over for several seconds, before one spoke. "Welcome, Hiryuu of the Heavenly Dragon school of martial arts, savior of Norland, and the third one named in The Book Of Elite Prophecy." Another sage was inspecting Hiryuu's arms. "These are the prism bracers, a Norland treasure! How did you get them?" The sages when alerted to this, began inspecting the tattoos on his arms and seemed quite awed. Hiryuu explained to them about his last encounter, and Akuryuu's fate. The sages nodded, stroking their beards. "This Norlandese boy will be remembered in the book of Those Who Came Before Who Kicked Ass. It is a great honor to carry his power within yourself, use it well." "It is decided. Frioniel, come forward." Frioniel stepped out from behind Hiryuu. "Frioniel is a 'Lord Of All That Kicks Ass'." The title has little meaning in times of peace, but when that peace is threatened, a chosen warrior will claim the title and lead us to salvation." "The third named in The Book Of Elite Prophecy is said to be 'a dragon with the power of heaven and hell'." "Do you accept this honor, Hiryuu?" Hiryuu was confused. Lords of all that kick ass? Books of elite prophecy? But he knew he had gotten in over his head when he agreed to go on the journey with Pyxie. Why stop now? "I'll do it." The sages cheered and a gate slammed open, flooding the chamber with sunlight. Frioniel urged Hiryuu outside into the sandy pit. "C'mon kid, showtime." Hiryuu slowly wheeled around taking in the magnificent sight of the Norland colosseum. The entire population looked to be in attendance. A heavy roar erupted from the crowd as the two gladiators emerged onto the show floor. A large table covered with every type of weapon imaginable waited for them in the center. Frioniel lifted two large bastard swords and held them in an x over his head, generating another cheer from the crowd. Hiryuu stared at the arsenal. "Whats this for?" Frioniel gestured with a sword. "Weapons. Choose one, then the duel will begin." "I don't use weapons." "Disarmament is one of the victory clauses. You have to have had experience in at least one weapon?" Hiryuu shook his head. "A few basic lessons. I choose to depend on my fists, rather than rely on weapons." Frioniel considered for a moment. "Where are you from?" "Huh? The Heavenly Dra-" "No, originally." "Uhh.." Hiryuu thought for a moment. "I think it was a country called Eblana." "Eblana, is it then?" Frioniel picked two straight edge katana and gave them to Hiryuu. Hiryuu tested them for weight and balance, before doing several complicated twisting maneuvers. Another cheer erupted for this show of finesse. Frioniel was also impressed. "What do you consider basic lessons, anyway?" Hiryuu and Frioniel moved to their designated positions, the King rose and called for silence. "Welcome to the Loatka duel, where we will witness history being made." The crowd cheered. "These are the rules. No magic, this includes summoning, spirit projection, and use of magic or magic items to enhance your physical ability. The duel will continue until one is disarmed, unconsious, killed, or otherwise unable to fight. Begin!" They began to slowly circle each other. Hiryuu tightened his grip on his katana and lept towards Frioniel. A cheer erupted for the first clash of metal. Hiryuu was rapidly turning and parrying Frioniel's heavy blows, sparks flew as their weapons met. Hiryuu clearly had the speed advantage, Frioniel made up for it in power. One swing of his sword would take both of Hiryuu's katana to deflect, but then he had Hiryuu's kicking feet to deal with. Frioniel brought both of his swords crashing down on Hiryuu, who dodged back, and lept up on Frioniels head. He vaulted off and twisted in mid-air, to land facing his opponents back. The spring of Hiryuu's jump caused Frioniel to stumble forward. Hiryuu tucked the katanas in his belt and roundhouse kicked Frioniel, knocking him over and causing him to lose his grip on the swords. The massive roar from the crowd reverberated through the entire structure, Hiryuu had won. The grand hall of Norland castle was filled with dignitaries, sages, soldiers, and townspeople. Hiryuu knelt before Nera, who leaned over and placed a medal around his neck. King Semite addressed him. "You are now the Lord Of All That Kicks Ass, and carry all the ass kicking privilages associated with it." Semite handed Hiryuu an ornately decorated katana. Hiryuu rose and accepted it. This was given to us by an ambassador from Eblana several centuries ago. Hiryuu unsheathed it and marvelled at the fine metalwork. A strange green gem was wired into the hilt. "A fine sword. Does it have a name?" Hiryuu asked. "Crusader. It is said to have the power of eight dragons, I figured it most fitting for you." Hiryuu nodded his thanks and strapped the sword to his back. The proceedings were interrupted when a scout rushed into the hall and whispered a message to Frioniel. Frioniel nodded and turned to Semite and Hiryuu. "It seems we have more guests, our scouts spotted two intruders, one was identified to be an Ork, and the other was a stange creature covered in gold." Semite waved his hand absently. "This is a time of celebration, I want no interruptions. I don't care if you have to take the whole damn army, deal with them." Frioniel saluted. "I'll assemble the knights." As he tuned to leave Hiryuu followed him. "I'd like to come as well." Frioniel grabbed a massive iron spear that was hanging on the wall and strapped a shield to his arm. "Very well, I'll show you what dragoons can really do." They mounted their chocobos and headed into the night, several soldiers in tow. -- Hiryuu oft times Akuryuu Subj: [ffml] [HD] The Good, the Bad, and the 'DED 'ARD! "Nicotron." grumbled Nicotron Z. Drugga and Nicotron Z were situated at the edge of a farmstead, but it appeared the only people around this area were scouts. However, the smell, and the nifty map Drugga had, stated this to be no place other than Norland. The scouts had quickly sent for help. Drugga chuckled as two burley men and several soldiers marched towards them. "'eh. Not quit az good as da dayz 'wit Krell..." "This would be the welcoming committy." interrupted Nicotron Z. "Tell me quickly, why are we here?" "Jus' ta raise 'ell." "Raise hell? We have to get to Hillion!" "Dis iz on da way." "No it isn't! Gimme that map!" Drugga grumbled and handed Nicotron Z the map, quickly drawing his axe as the soldiers began to move to a charge. "Uhh.. what the... there's nothing on here that says Hillion... man, I'd hate to be those two blokes getting char-GRAH!" Nicotron Z was tackled by six soldiers, who immediately began spearing him in various areas, searching for weak points in his plating. Drugga was somewhat more ready for the charge. Six Norlandese warriors charged forward at him, and the first two found thier heads seperated from their bodies as they came into the range of Drugga's massive axe. Two more grasped hold of him, knocking him to the ground. Drugga snarled and, with a free hand, bashed one of the warriors on the noggin. The warrior convulsed and collapsed. Looking up, Drugga saw a slight arc of moonlight. Dodging his head to teh side, the axe barely missed him. Grabbing the soldier on his left leg and swinging it at the executioner wannabe, Drugga sprang forward and gave a massive headbutt to the soldier running up. Picking up his axe, he pounded through one soldier's back, and the soldier's blade fell onto the other soldier, killing him as well. Nicotron Z had by this time also dispatched of his attackers and now it was the pair squaring off against the two large warriors. "You fight well." began one, who was decked in magnificent armour. He dismounted and drew a massive spear. "But not well enough. Let us dispatch of these villains, Hiryuu." Hiryuu said nothing. His eyes were fixed on the map the gold plated being was holding. "Hiryuu?" Hiryuu shook himself out of it. "Yes, let's." Hiryuu dropped off his chocobo and assumed a battle stance. "Oi, martial ertizt." grumbled Drugga. Nicotron Z placed the map down, in a small crack of a stone. "Alright, I'd care for your names. I never kill a man I don't know." challenged the armoured dragoon. "Ma name'z Drugga, da Klubba, Defeeta uv Bacca 'n slaya uv Tim!" The armoured dragoon's eyes widened. "How dare you insult our patron idol by suggesting you've defeated him." "I 'ave. Ah gotz da scar ta prove it too." "Eyaah!" the dragoon leaped high into the air. "Frioniel..." grumbled Hiryuu. Looking up, Drugga sighed. "Wish I 'ad a crossbow roight now. WOAH!" Drugga jumped to the side as Frioniel came crashing down on the spot he was standing. Drugga then punched him in the face, rather hard. Frioniel stumbled back. Hiryuu snorted. "Punching, huh? With that big axe?" "Oi, ah used ta practice da art of 'ded'ard." "The art of 'Dead Hard'?" "Oi." "Frioniel, stay back. I will handle this villain." Frioniel was about to say something, but then slunk back and nodded. "He has insulted the great Bacca, the High Lord of All that Kicks Ass, it is your divine right to slay him." "Ah beat 'im, twice. Ah would've beat 'up 'is wife, but she kept runnin' away!" Frioniel was about to jump into the air again upon the comment, but just dug his fingers into his lance. "If it's all the same to you, dragoon..." cut in Nicotron Z. "I am Nicotron Z, Savior of the Earth, and I certainly wouldn't mind beating your ass down." "Very well." Frioniel leaped into the air. Drugga looked at Hiryuu. Hiryuu nodded and bowed. Drugga scratched his crotch. Hiryuu assumed his battle stance. Drugga dropped his axe into a holster on his back and motioned for Hiryuu to come at him. Hiryuu leaped into a firekick, flying at Drugga at massive speed. Drugga didn't anticipate such speed and went flying back. "Wot the..." Drugga grunted and pulled himself back up. "Ya gunna play dat game, eh?" Hiryuu chucked a fireball at Drugga. Drugga ducked it. "Awright, if ya can do date, ah can do DIS!" Drugga unleashed a hurricane kick, which Hiryuu dodged. Drugga then proceeded to hit a tree. The tree fell over. "OW! FUCK!" yelled the Ork. Hiryuu snickered. He threw another firekick. Somehow, this time, Drugga was ready. Jumping to the side, Drugga belted hiryuu one in the face. Hiryuu fell to the ground. Hiryuu attempted to roll away, but the Ork was faster than he appeared to be. Drugga grabbed Hiryuu in a really, really, really tight gutwrench and the pair went tumbling. Finally pulling himself free, Hiryuu sent a roundhouse kick to Drugga's head. It connected and Drugga went down with a snort. However, Drugga immediately countered with a leg sweep that took Hiryuu off guard, knocking Hiryuu to the ground. Hiryuu felt Drugga's elbow dig into his stomache. Hiryuu jumped up and ran backwards, crashing into another body. He was back to back with Frioniel. Drugga pulled out his axe and snickered. Nicotron Z opened up a cannon on his chest. "Gud fight." chuckled Drugga. Suddenly, the pair went catatonic. Electricity bolts flowed across thier bodies as they were caught in a very potent hold spell. Hiryuu and Frioniel shook their heads in disbelief. "Well done, Hiryuu. I knew you would attract the map to this point." Hiryuu nodded at the voice from behind him. "Excuse me?" asked Frioniel dilligently as he turned around. Before them stood a black knight, about as tall as Drugga. "Master." muttered Hiryuu. "You've done well. Now, take the map and let us go." Hiryuu nodded. Frioniel shook his head. "Excuse me?" The black knight strolled up to him. "You will tell no one of this. Hiryuu, the golden man and the Ork disapeared during the fight." Frioniel said nothing but limped away. "Now then, Hiryuu, let us take these two as prisoner. I would be interested in what they have to say." "Yes, master." "Now let us go. The Red Wing is waiting." -- The eternal lord of darkness... He identified as Sir Frioniel, who had just left with the Lord Of All That Kicks Ass and several knights, but there was no sign of them. Frioniel continued riding past them, without uttering another word. Arriving back at the barracks, Frioniel was stopped by several soldiers. "Sir Frioniel, you're wounded! What happened?" "Where is the battalion of knights, and the Lord Of All That Kicks Ass?" Frioniel dismounted and limped towards a nearby bench, where he seated himself and allowed nurses to tend to his injuries. The confused knights just looked on in silence. King Semite strode into the room, backed by Nera and several sages. "Frioniel! What has happened? Where are Hiryuu and my knights?" Frioniel finally spoke. "I don't know." Semite waved his arms in frustration. "A whole battalion, it doesn't just dissapear!" A scout ran into the room and gave the fist on heart salute. "Confirmed, sir. twenty knights, dead where they lie." Semite turned to Frioniel in disbelief. "And what of The Lord Of All That Kicks Ass, and the two intruders?" Frioniel shrugged. "I don't know. They just.. dissapeared. So I came back to report." "Dissapeared." Nera stated flatly. Frioniel nodded. One of the sages interrupted. "I fear things have taken a turn for the worse." "Thats obvious." Nera pointed out. "Do you know something?" "It is recorded in the Book Of Not So Elite Prophecy, that the third one named in the Book Of Elite Prophecy will be corrupted by darkness, and become the Dark Lord Of All That Kicks Ass." King Semite gripped his temples. "Couldn't you have told us this sooner?" "But it is said in the Sweet Book Governing The Use Of The Books Of Elite Prophecy that-" Semite cut him off. "You, I want a full search of the area." The knights saluted and ran to the stables. "Frioniel, get some rest. We'll sort this out tomorrow." He glared darkly at the sages and turned to leave. Nera looked upwards, to the proud banner of the Lord Of All That Kicks Ass, that hung above all others. *** Hiryuu clutched his head in agony, The loud buzzing that threw his thoughts in every direction and perminated his very core had returned. It attacked whenever he questioned what he was doing, or thought to do something that master Golbez might not approve of. He had learned to avoid the pain by being as loyal as possible. This was no problem, as what master Golbez wanted, was the same thing he wanted. It had all become clear to him during that fight with Drugga and Nicrotron. His life until that point was one meaningless struggle after another, with master Golbez he could become something great. His thoughts were interrupted by the prisoners below decks. "Ey!, let us outta ere!" Hiryuu sighed and stepped away from the railing of the Red Wing, watching the clouds roll by beneath him had made him dizzy. He walked to the captains cabin where master Golbez was studying the map he had retrieved from the two stooges. "Discovered anything, master?" Golbez looked up, two glowing slits were all that his dark helmet would reveal. "Reaching Hillion will not be so simple.." He gestured to the map. Hiryuu strode next to him and looked at the map, not understanding. "Whats this, master?" "The safeguard, Hiryuu. You didn't think a power like that of Hillion would just lie waiting for someone to claim it?" Hiryuu shook his head. "You are too wise, master." Golbez pointed out several marked locations on the map. "If my understanding of this language is correct, we must collect the twelve artifacts from these locations, then bring them to a place known as 'Crystal Peak'." "And where is that, master?" "The map doesn't say." Hiryuu was angered by this hampering to his masters plans. "We'll find it, master. What are these artifacts?" Golbez's hand tightened into a fist. "Crystals. I hate crystals." Hiryuu decided he hated crystals too. "Should we begin our search for them then?" "Tomorrow. Get some rest, I'm going to speak with our guests some more." Hiryuu watched Golbez stand and head below decks, his dark cape flowing behind him. He felt the medallion around his neck, and the buzzing returned. -- Hiryuu oft times Akuryuu hiryuu@ffml-irc.org http://www.ffml-irc.org/ ICQ: 16479634 --------------- But for a certainty back then, we loved so many, yet hated so much.
